Euthanasia Isn’t a Death Penalty…Apparently

A few weeks ago I wrote an article entitled “Grim Reaper on Wheels”.  It was regarding the Netherlands increased tolerance and actual promotion of non-voluntary euthanasia.

Holland has sanctioned six national “Roving Death Squads” who travel the countryside in search of candidates that “request” suicide assistance. It started out as a voluntary program but government progressive eugenicists seized the opportunity to expand the “assisted suicide” program into a quality of life program. Ezekiel Emanuel would be proud.

In other words, if one is deemed to be saddled with a poor quality of life such as severe mental retardation, dementia or disease, one would expect a visit from the “Roving Death Squad”.

After all, it’s neither compassionate nor fair to expect one to live a life of pain and anguish. It’s for your own good and the good of society. As I stated in the Grim Reaper article, this is how it started in the Nazi regime.

And as is typical of Europe; it’s progressive monkey see, monkey do. Other countries are adopting this compassionate practice.

So I found it ironic when last week I discovered an article by Lachlan Markay entitled, “European Union Financing Efforts to End Death Penalty in U.S.”. What?

Now, last I checked, most of Europe, save for Germany, is dead (pardon the pun) broke. Yet the EU is managing to pour millions of euros into this pet project. Funny how that works. No matter how broke they or we are, liberals worldwide will always find the money.

The European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) stated its opposition to capital punishment saying: “it’s abolition is a key objective for the Unions human rights policy”.

Aren’t these the same countries that sanction roving death squads? Why yes, yes they are.

In fact Markay states that the E.U. has given over €3.5 million ($4.8 million) to the anti-death penalty cause. I wonder how the starving Greeks feel about that? Hungry Greeks probably won’t have to worry about it for long though. Going hungry is hardly a good quality of life and so they will just be euthanized for their own good.

So the enlightened European Socialists are against the death penalty but for euthanasia. Huh. Kind of hard to get your head around that one until you ponder it a bit.

See, the death penalty in America is effectively controlled by the private sector. Yes, the government controls the proceedings and prosecution but a jury of private citizens controls the defendant’s fate and that can’t be allowed, for the citizenry may make the wrong decision.

In Europe, the benevolent State is judge, jury and executioner. The way it ought to be.

And now, as progressives always do, they are pushing eugenics even further.

Last Friday, the American Thinker posted an article reporting that Belgium is considering extending its euthanasia program to children.

Legalized euthanasia has been practiced in Belgium since 2002 but only on adults. Apparently this extension of compassion is proper to at least one expert, professor of bioethics, John Harris of the University of Manchester, UK. He claims: “the principle of euthanasia for children sounds shocking at first, but it’s motivated by compassion and protection. It’s unfair to provide euthanasia differentially to some citizens and not to others (children) if the need is equal”.

Wow! Charming man, isn’t he! Charming like Dr. Mengele.

So I guess the moral (or immoral) of the story is that the punishment of death for evil-doers is wrong but the killing of innocents isn’t, like say… abortion.

Got it?
